|Balenciaga studded black leather brogues|
The definition of a brogue is “a strong outdoor shoe with ornamental perforated patterns in the leather”. Like the oxford, it’s borrowed from men’s footwear styles and has enjoyed much popularity beginning with the 20’s. Speaking of Oxford, you don’t need an Oxford University degree to know that the election of Donald Trump next week would be a disaster! (I couldn’t resist getting that in).
Brogues are authentic, timeless classics; sporty, unisex and androgynous, and thus, could not be more in step (Ha!) with what’s happening today. This is why we are seeing so many iterations on runways and available in stores and online.
They range from the classic to the jazzy and while many have single soles and flat or block heels there are those that are plat formed (they are so vertiginous that they will give you a lift without wearing a traditional high heel). Needless to say, they work with everything jeans, pantsuits, shorts, and dresses.
It’s all in the attitude...
